We earnestly request that the media observe the anonymity of the families we serve. It is our hearts desire to be helpful and considerate to the welfare of the many children involved in this mission.
ARTICLE BY BRYAND HYDE – PERSPECTIVES: CHANGE THE WORLD INSTEAD OF TRYING TO RULE IT
OPINION – The fear and anger that are driving so much of our societal discourse today are taking their toll. I realized this when I saw my friend Stephen Palmer’s statement over the weekend that he was choosing to withdraw from the political maelstrom. He was making a conscious decision to step away from the madness Palmer wasn’t waving a white flag of surrender. He was making a conscious decision to step away from the madness because he realized that all the purse-swinging is accomplishing nothing. I think he has a point worth considering. For all the fighting that is taking place, virtually no one is being enlightened or swayed in their thinking. This means that all that effort and energy is likely being wasted. Read More…
Bryan Hyde interviews Phil Jessop of Southwest Recovery Mission Ministries
Phil Jessop and Donna McGinnis McBride speaks with Nancy Harrison
Meet Rodney, his wife Tara and their AWESOME children, Nick and Hannah! They spent part of their vacation to help us at the mission. Of course we were able to get some fun in too. This family has been a great support for us but it goes deeper than that. They are part of the family. God has blessed us with these guys for sure. Amazing people! Looking forward to having them out for a visit again soon…It has been busy around here! We are seeing more folks come out each week. Yet, with all that has been happening there is not a sense of doom and gloom. Instead, there is HOPE. We see it more and more. Times are tough for sure but folks are coming together, encouraging each other, helping each other and rebuilding a community. It is not, has not nor will an easy journey but step by step unity in this community is growing. We still have a lot of work to do, a lot of people to feed and a lot of love to give. God has called us here to serve Him and in that service we have been blessed. We are blessed by being able to be a part of the lives of some amazingly wonderful people. We truly love these folks!
These guys came by for a visit all the way from Jackson, WY. What a FUN FUN FUN (did I mention fun?)group of young folks! I didn’t want them to leave! They brought some donated items with them as well. They had me laughing and praising God. I seriously want them to come back and spend more time with us. They were a blast! It is so awesome to see young people like these guys with such a heart for the Lord! They are definitely an inspiration. Before they left, Neill asked if he could pray. That young man is quite a prayer warrior! They have truly blessed me! Thank you for taking the time out of your Spring Break adventures to hang out with me for a while! Hugs, love and prayers to all of you! Can’t wait for you to come back!
A very special thank you to Walmart for their financial contribution on November 17th to this mission and for their assistance during the recent flood disaster.
Food stamp case sparks fear for already hungry FLDS members
BY ERIN ALBERTY AND NATE CARLISLE – SALT LAKE TRIBUNE

Donna McGinnis, a volunteer at Southwest Recovery Mission Ministries in Apple Valley, sorts through donated food Thursday February 25, 2016. The organization provides donated food to families in Hildale, Utah and Colorado City, Arizona.
Apple Valley • Among members of Utah’s largest polygamous sect — where food shortages were already a way of life — there is escalating panic in the wake of arrests tied to allegations of food-stamp fraud, according to volunteers and aid workers close to the Utah-Arizona state line area known as Short Creek.
“We’re trying to get everything we can right now,” said Phil Jessop, a former Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints member who helps run a food bank at his transmission-repair business just north of Hildale. He is one of several advocates trying to smuggle food through covert networks within the community and into FLDS homes over the restrictions of church leaders.
For years, FLDS members have been commanded to give their food-stamp benefits to the church, according to federal indictments unsealed last week. Food and cash transfers went to the church “storehouse,” ostensibly to be redistributed among the members, investigators have said.
But financial troubles and generously preferential food allotments for the families of church leaders have left the shelves bare for many other FLDS families, who have been ordered not to turn anywhere else for food, possibly for fear of losing their church standing and their families.
“The stories I hear about one meal a day, and people being hungry, the restrictions on diets, the restrictions on who can participate in the storehouse and who can’t, the requirement to give their money — these people have been through a lot,” said Roger Hoole, an attorney who has represented former FLDS members.
Now, with the church’s top leaders in jail and the storehouse’s supply line apparently broken, charity workers say it is not clear how rank-and-file members — many of them single mothers already reportedly facing extreme food insecurity — will feed their families while remaining obedient to the church.
“They’d rather go hungry and have their children go hungry,” Jessop said of the most devout church members. “Those within the order will not come out here [to the food bank]. If they knew they were getting food from us, they wouldn’t take it.”

BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! No, I am not talking about the Flintstones cartoon. I am talking about God! Let me explain. We have had very little clothing donations for a few months. So, the other morning I decided I better talk to the crew and see what we could do to generate some clothing donations. Then BAM! We are told we have about 100 boxes coming down from Salt Lake. Then another BAM a little later, a trailer was dropped off at the shop loaded with donations. THEN ANOTHER BAM! We received some food and misc. donations that same day! THEN BAM AGAIN! The next day a family brings a carload of items they purchased. God is so cool! So thank you Lord for the BAM BAM BAM BAM’S!!! I absolutely dig the way God works!!!
Tis The Season!!!
We wanted to take a moment to reach out to everyone to let you know what we are doing to share the love of Christ with those that we serve during this Christmas season and what you can do to help us. Our goal is simple: Christmas dinner for each family. Even though this sounds simple enough it actually is not. The majority of the people we serve have never had Christmas. What better way to help them celebrate Jesus Christ, who is the reason for this season, than to provide a Christmas dinner for their family to share. We are also making ‘goody bags’ for all of the children. On average, we serve 60 families per week which averages out to 780 individuals most of which are children. How can you help us? Click on our donate button and provide a tax deductible donation.
Together we can provide a meal and memories for these families.

Urgent family in need!! We have a family that has come to us today asking for help. They were unable to pay their power bill and are now without power. With temperatures over 90 this causes us great concern. We are asking for donations from everyone so that we can assist this family and get their power back on ASAP. Please consider helping us help them. Thank you kindly…
I want to put out a HUGE THANK YOU to all the folks that support us. The other day I was approached by an individual that comes every Thursday. This person’s sister and children had recently left the FLDS church but is not living in our area. I was asked if there was a food bank in the town where this family is living because they were in serious need of some food. There is no food bank. So instead we were able to provide funds so this single mother could go buy food. I cannot explain or describe how humbling it was to be able to help. It was such a blessing! We know God is in control and is ever so loving, kind and faithful. Thank you so much for helping us so that we can pay it forward in helping those in need.
What a blessing! Recently we had a family that needed clothes and furniture as their house burned. Praise God we were able to help meet their needs. We also have single mother of 8 children that had NO furniture, NO beds, NO kitchen table, NO dressers, etc.. You get the picture. The children were sleeping on the floor. Formerly, part of the Jeffs FLDS church, the husband was sent away to repent, leaving the mother there alone with the children. No help from the church or husband has been given. The mother came to the realization that this is NOT how God works! Praise the Lord for that! She has been coming to us for food and clothing. We did not realize just how desperately they need/needed our help. We just found out yesterday that not only have they been living in a house with absolutely no furniture but there is also NO ELECTRICITY! This means they have no heat, hot water, refrigerator, etc.. Again, you get the picture. Yet, she stays positive and the children have smiles on their faces. This is but one story of families that are in such need. We need your help desperately. We cannot do this alone. There are so many families here that are in this situation. Please visit our website and make a donation today so that we can not only meet the needs of these mothers and their children but so we can show each one of them the love of Christ. Together we can continue to make the difference in their lives. For those of you that are not familiar with Southwest Recovery Mission, 100% of all donations go to the families we serve. We ask for nothing for ourselves except for God to lead us where He wants us to serve. So please, help us to serve these families. Thank you for all the prayers and support…. God Bless…
